In the world we live in today, having a good attitude is everything. Especially because it is so easy to notice the bad things in life and ignore the good things. It’s only natural for us to see that the “grass is always greener on the other side”.
I find myself doing that alot. Despite my great family, a peaceful simple life, and an abundance of food to keep my stomach satisfied, I somehow manage to find that insidious thing to complain about!
If you are looking to live a healthier life, achieving a better attitude is one of the simplest ways to get started. You see, my friend, attitude is the basis of health. If you master the skill of a good, positive attitude, you can master the skill of just about, well, anything.
Here are a few tricks and tips in how to have a positive attitude:
How to Have a Positive Attitude Tactic #1: Laugh more
It comes to us naturally, it banishes stress, and yes it can make your attitude change for the better. Laughing releases endorphins, a feel good chemical. Once you get the endorphins running through your veins, I doubt your mind will come up with things to complain about. Also, don’t be afraid to laugh, even if your laugh sounds like a duck having a heart attack. Let it out. Laugh at yourself, laugh for no reason trust me, you’ll like it.
How to Have a Positive Attitude Tactic #2: Notice the good things
Are you having a bad day? Fight the temptation to whine and complain about everything and anything. Really think; is that going to make you feel any better? Instead, close your eyes, take a few deep breaths, open them, then observe the beauty of the earth you live on, the life you live. It also helps to say your observation out loud like, “ Wow, what great weather!” Even if you are alone, talking to yourself can make your positive outlook on life more tangible… er… just make sure no one sees you talking to yourself.
How to Have a Positive Attitude Tactic #3: Compare
You may look at your life and think, it can’t get any worse than how it is now, but actually, it can. Believe it or not, you have it good. Lots of people around the world suffer much, much, much, much, MUCH more than you. So think next time, is your complaint really worth complaining about? I use this method a lot when I feel like a grouch. Sometimes I have to eat my least favorite dinner, and I have a million and one reasons in my mind why this food isn’t worthy. But then I think, geezz what are you doing? At least you have food!! Some people have to go day by day just having rice or nothing at all. That realization banishes all negative thoughts and humbles me.
How to Have a Positive Attitude Tactic #4: Exercise
Remember me talking about endorphins? Well exercise is also a good creator of these feel good chemicals. Exercise is a whole other topic in itself. But to put it shortly, do anything that will get your heart racing. Skip rope. Run instead of walk to your destination. It doesn’t have to be a hard core workout routine to achieve this goal. Not only will you feel more positive, but you will also feel proud and optimistic knowing you did your body a favor by doing something healthy. By then, all negative thoughts in your head will be no more.
These four basic attitude boosters will surely brighten your day. Just remember, there has to be a balance in everything. So it’s alright to complain or criticize some things. Just make sure its worth doing so. But no matter what, make sure you balance this out with looking on the bright side:)
