So many home business and internet marketing coaches focus on the freedom gained through that 6-figure income or that million-dollar mark. And I’m not arguing against that. Money is indeed an extraordinary power.
But let’s step back a moment . . .
If you really want freedom and a rich life, gaining control over how you use money gives you even more extraordinary powers. Even more than that million dollar mile post. Since it doesn’t matter how much how much money you have, you can still enjoy a rich life.
I know what I’m saying from experience. At times we have lived as a family of four on $35,000 a year. However despite all the social economists telling us that we should feel poor, we never felt that way.
We enjoyed good health, perhaps one of the biggest treasures ever. And we enjoyed the simple things of life – good food on the table, safety, being together as a family.
Every evening when I sat on the steps next to my husband and we watched our children run around in the soft glow of evening, I felt like one of the richest people in the world.
And even now, as the money is coming in and our bank account is growing, I know this: If the money dried up tomorrow, we would still be able to enjoy life.
So while I’m not naysaying the luxuries and opportunities of profit, I also want to put a word in for frugality here.
Frugality paired with simple living has freed us from feeling dependent on money for happiness and health.
Now while frugality plays a role in the big picture of enjoying life, it plays a particularly strategic role when it comes to your home business.
Why? Because no matter where you end up financially, frugality will help you get there faster and enjoy the journey as well.
When you make wise financial decisions, you give yourself more options for how you use your money and your time to pursue goals for your business and your relationships.
- It means that you may not have to earn $300,000 a year to take the family vacations you wanted – or cut down to a shorter workday.
- It means you can be more selective about your clients and get both more enjoyment out of your work as well as more strategic about moving your business forward.
- It also may mean that you can hire that virtual assistant or do some advertising sooner than you would have otherwise and build your business faster.
Frugality essentially means you’re in control. And that you don’t have to sacrifice other goals for the almighty business or financial goals.
Now, I certainly have upped my spending in some areas as my income has grown. And I’ve spent thousands of dollars to further my business.
And this adamantly DIYer has learned some hard lessons that sometimes it’s far better to spend the money and hire someone to do something than to waste time and muddle through a project you don’t have the skills for.
But when you put wise spending in the mix . . .When you save money where you can . . .you profit in all areas of your life.
What is your take on this question? Have you used frugality to help your business and enhance your life? What frugal strategies have been particularly helpful to you?
